Support you for life’s hardest moves
Meet Dr. Shuchang Kang
Licensed Clinical Psychologist (CA PSY 32045) | Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) | Eating Disorder Prevention & Recovery Advocate | Avid Rock Climber
At CruxMind.Space, I bring over a decade of clinical experience across university counseling centers, hospitals, and community mental health clinics to a space designed specifically for the climbing community. Drawing on my work supporting student-athletes at UCLA Counseling & Psychological Services, I help individuals navigate performance pressure both in sport and in daily life. Here, evidence-based psychological practice meets the lived language of the wall: breath, falls, trust, commit, and send.
My Approach: Clinging Less, Embracing More
Whether on a challenging route or navigating daily life, we often default to gripping harder when we feel anxious or stuck. But true mental toughness isn’t about over-gripping; it’s about learning when to breathe, how to rest, and how to fall.
My therapeutic style is warm, relational, collaborative, and culturally sensitive. I am deeply committed to decolonizing mental health, supporting marginalized communities, and offering trauma-informed, gender-affirming care to ethnic/racial minorities, immigrants, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Specialized Care for Mind and Body
As an advocate for eating disorder prevention and recovery, I am particularly passionate about helping climbers reject toxic diet culture and the dangerous myth that “lighter means stronger”. By integrating the wisdom of yoga and other mindfulness practice, I help you tune into your body’s internal cues rather than external pressures. Together, we will shift away from toxic weight talk and gravity myths, refocusing your energy on sustainable fueling, intentional recovery, and rebuilding fundamental body trust both on and off the wall.
Whether you want to overcome the fear of falling, performance anxiety, or build appreciation for the body you have today, I am here to help you find your own beta.
